Thoughts, Words, Works

Global Warming: Welcome to Southern California @

Weather readout: 1000 degrees farenheit

It's a funny thing, climate. You never know how hot or how cold it can get until it does. And, I mean, there are plenty of people who don't think that we humans have any significant impact on it year to year. But as someone who's going on four years here in sunny Southern California, it's hard not to think Al Gore is right on the money.

My freshman year of college, we had at least three thunderstorms before the end of October. The next year, it was much drier in the fall, and then it went dry and sub-zero on us. When February and March rolled around it rained about four days a week up through almost May. Last year, we got hardly any inclement weather. But this year, it's well into November and we're still running into cloudless, 80-degree-plus days. Today's not quite that bad, but I still miss having things like rainclouds and fog once in a while.

I guess it's a relief that it won't be much longer that I'm here. This semester is already drawing to a close, and then come January, I'll be back for my last hurrah. But after that... who knows? I mean, I guess I've narrowed down my choices to two options: either getting a job and trying to get my own place... or living out of the country for a while by doing the JET program. But, you know, it just doesn't feel real right now. I have no interest in going to graduate school, but it looks like I have less than one day to start and finish my JET application for next year... so that may not be possible.
